fine art and fine wine

A Creative Life, animals in art, art exhibit, art gallery, fine art, public art, visual story, words and pictures

Here are some photos of my fine art in the process of being exhibited at a winery, Burnt Bridge Cellars in Vancouver Wa, for a First Friday event, June 3 2016 www.burntbridgecellars.com

At the winery I’ll have new artwork in an exhibit titled “Enjoying Time”. The opening starts at 4pm Friday evening and includes music, food and wine and, of course, visual fine art.  (The exhibit will be available until the end of July – see the winery’s website for their hours)

I like having my artwork in winery’s – especially when there is good food prepared by a chef (like at the Burnt Bridge Cellars), and music – because my artwork in general is about taking time to enjoy small moments. So what better way to amplify my artistic thoughts than to exhibit my art in a way that can engage all of the senses?

Fortunately my art agents at Caplan Art Designs agree and aid and abet my efforts! (The gallery owner brought some of my artwork from the gallery and consulted about the display at the winery!) www.caplanartdesigns.com

Here is my “Enjoying Time” exhibit statement:

“After attending a symphony followed by a multi-course dinner and drinks with friends I began thinking about time; musical time, cooking time… finding, taking and spending time on things that bring joy to life.  I thought about how our lives are entirely made up of time and it’s up to us to use our time well.  So I began to collect, from my daily life, my own “enjoyable moments” – and recreate them for you with some of my favorite animals.”

And here (finally!) are the promised photos –

artist book page

A Creative Life, art exhibit, art gallery, artist book, books, visual story

I’ve been updating my Artist Book page on my website so that there is a link to my book “Coffee Please” (so you can flip through it) in the 23 Sandy Gallery Wanderlust exhibit catalog.  That exhibit opens tonight!

And I’ve posted on that same Artist Book page another of my artist books – in a way you can look through it too. Scroll down on the page to find it. It’s titled “Metamorphosis”. Here’s a teaser image:

Wanderlust Book Arts Exhibit Opening

A Creative Life, art exhibit, art gallery, artist book, books, handmade books, published art, travel art and writing, visual story, words and pictures

This coming weekend is the opening for “Wanderlust” a book arts exhibit at the 23 Sandy Gallery!  I am lucky enough to have a unique artist book in this exhibit that has a lot of impressive book artist’s work in it! Here is a link to the online exhibit http://23sandy.com/works/product-category/current/wanderlust in case you can’t make it to Portland Oregon this weekend. You can also get more information about the exhibit and a copy of the exhibit catalog here: http://23sandy.com/works/wanderlust  (I just love the paradoxical pun of being able to buy a limited edition book about an exhibit of artist books!)

Here is a past blog post about my book “Coffee Please?” which is in this exhibit:  https://sueclancy.com/2016/04/29/coffee-delivered/

And here is a card from the 23 Sandy Gallery about the exhibit:

the art of making time

I’ve been thinking lately about time … and cats.

time music art

Here is my first piece off my new easel: “Out Of The Blues” – it was easier to move my easel up and down as I needed to and even though this is a small piece (10 x 8 x 2 inches) the easel was unbelievably comfortable to work on! Watch out world – I’ll be popping my art out now like a creative eye-candy factory!

And yes, “Out Of The Blues” is yet another new artwork destined for exhibit via Caplan Art Designs www.caplanartdesigns.com in the coming months.  As you’ve probably already guessed “…Blues” is about surprising delightful musical melodies that arise from within creative constraints.

Alright, back to work; I’m going to do another art piece, write an exhibit statement… there’s a lot to do before an exhibit happens! Fun times!

If you’re just joining this regular programing – the last blog episode about my new easel is here: https://sueclancy.com/2016/05/05/the-easel-has-landed/

the easel has landed!

A Creative Life, fine art

My new Sorg Super 8 Easel arrived today! http://www.studioeasel.com/ I live tweeted this momentous occasion via Twitter: @artistclancy – to sum up: it was difficult to be patient and wait for the truck, the truck finally came, discovered that the box was crushed and punctured – some fear and trepidation as to what would be found inside the box (Would ‘my precious’ be damaged?) but it turned out all was well!! There was a quick cold-pizza break for lunch while I watched the easel assembly video instructions.  Then I was all wrenches, hammer and ratchet set – and with valuable assistance from Judy – the easel was assembled! Here are the as-promised-on-Twitter photos:

A big box came! My new easel!

Oh no! The box is crushed and punctured in places! Will the easel inside be okay?

Whew! Everything looks okay! And all the easel parts seem to be here!

I’m thinking the Sorg easel is going to work out just fine – it does allow me to move my artwork up and down much more easily – which was what I’d hoped for in this post here https://sueclancy.com/2016/04/27/easy-easel-eagerness/

Art of Improvisation

A Creative Life, animals in art, art exhibit, art gallery, fine art, words and pictures

I’ve been thinking about music, Jazz specifically, pondering where music comes from, what inspires it – especially when it’s improvised on the spot during live performance. Somebody has to hang onto the melody like a bulldog and yet allow something “new” to drop in… the art I did on this topic is below.

I’ve been busy creating artwork toward a one-person exhibit, facilitated by Caplan Art Designs, that will open in early June at the Burnt Bridge Cellars winery in Vancouver Washington. Without further ado – my new art:

illustrating The Tishman Review

A Creative Life, illustration, published art

Today the Volume 2 Issue 2 April 2016 issue of The Tishman Review is launched! I have 3 (yes three) illustrations in this issue, but you should see what the other contributors have in it! I’m impressed with many of the poems, short fiction and essays here. Honored to have my art included! You can see it online, get an ebook version or a printed version here: http://tishmanreview.com/

Here’s a picture of me in my art studio being happy about this:
