Bear it in mind and more studio adjustments

I finished the 5 x 7 painting I was working on in my last post and have titled it “Bear It In Mind: you are enough”

Here’s a closer look.

The above artwork besides being a framed piece for my upcoming exhibits will also become a greeting card on my Zazzle shop. I did this drawing below for the inside of the card. It seems a good thought to bear in mind.

As I wrote in my email newsletter since my last blog post I got a leg cast. Creating a “you are enough” card was a way to remind myself that it’s okay to rest.

This week the kitchen table has definitely become a place for both my sketchbook work and fine art creations. As I said I would I’ve started an 8 x 10 size painting just to see if I can do that size at the table too.

The table is now covered with art supplies and with my wife’s help I’ve put a board across chair arms to hold the paintings in progress within my reach.

I sit at the table with my leg on another chair (with a pillow) and hold the board I use for my paintings above the dachshund. I work with non-toxic gouache and watercolors so as to not harm myself or the dog. Currently I use Beam paints and a Pentel water brush to paint with which also means I don’t have to ask my wife to wash out my brushes quite as much. Often I cover the dachshund with a towel too so I don’t get paint on him. My fine art making position is now similar to my position for working in my sketchbook.

My stamina isn’t very long yet for sitting that way – leg wants more elevation than this – but it’s progress towards being able to keep doing my artwork!

It’s amazing how much the cast is already helping! This position in the photo below is most comfortable right now. Part of me contemplates how to paint from this position, too, but for right now it’s for reading. My wife took this photo.

The Martian Chronicles by Bradbury is a good read. It’s a classic for many reasons and for me two of those reasons are; that this book describes well some attributes of humanity of which awareness could be helpful and it’s a fun story.

I hope your week is a good one!
