Oops-a-daisy

I’ve been working on a new painting as I mentioned in my last post that illustrates an idiom often said when a small child falls – “Oops-a-daisy”.

Yes, the idea for this painting was inspired by my falling and hurting my ankle. (See also my recent email newsletter about SOCK questions for how I use life occurrences as inspiration sources)

That I slipped on ice during winter when no daisies were in bloom doesn’t stop me from seeing flowers. 😁🤣

Here’s my finished 8 x 10 inch gouache and ink painting “Oops-a-daisy”.

“Oops-a-daisy” – by Clancy – 8 x 10 in – gouache and ink on board

In a recent email newsletter I had begun reading A Great Reckoning by Louise Penny… it’s a gripping read! And as I shared in a recent email newsletter I’m also reading Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill.

I’ve also started a new painting…

… but since taking the above photo I visited my doctor, got a new cast and a firm talking-to about the meanings of “elevating” a foot and “resting”.

My bright idea to paint while sitting at the table – with my foot on a pillow on another chair – according to my doctor doesn’t fall within the definition of “elevated”. Sitting at the table like that to eat a meal is one thing – but to sit for hours painting is in “no, no, bad dog” territory. 🤦‍♀️

So with the help of my wife I’ve begun to put a small easel on my tummy in order to paint while laying on the couch with my foot up on several pillows and a folded blanket. She kindly fetches my paints and washes up my brushes. Together we’re making it work… I think.

I’m grateful to have a spouse who is also creative and understands.

Oops-a-daisy indeed. I hope you’re on solid ground and have something firm to grip (like a good book) while the earth spins.

  1. It’s no fun getting a “firm talking to” from one’s doctor. 😦 It’s good that you have your wife to take the sting out of it while bringing you into compliance. I LOVE the new Oops-a-Daisy painting looking up at the undersides of the daisies!

  2. This whole set of circumstances is a perfect example of using lemons for a higher purpose. And you’ve done a lot of reading too.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind comment!!! And yes, being able to do lots of reading has been a major way I’ve been able to see this time of enforced immobility as an opportunity. When it’s hard to see it that way sometimes – I’m so grateful that my to be read pile of books was as tall as it was!! I could feel frustrated with my leg and then …look! A book! 😁💚
