Last week I worked at an easel perched on my tummy while I laid on the couch with my hurt ankle elevated. I worked on this painting…
….which I’ve finished and titled “Under The Rose”. I’ve been reading a book by Muriel Barbery (see below) and thinking of various reasons why people feel a need to keep their true selves hidden, as the idiom says, “under the rose”.
Prior to work on my painting “Under the Rose” I had played with fanciful birds and flowers in my sketchbook.
And I’ve begun a new painting also with imaginary birds in it.
More fanciful birds and an update on my progress at ankle recovery is here on my email newsletter – the gist is that the enforced rest (painting with an easel on my tummy) for a week did me a very good favor!
Consequently I’m back to a medical boot (it’s a different boot than the first one). I’m still resting often and am happily reading “The Elegance of the Hedgehog” by Muriel Barbery. One character feels the need to hide her interests in literature, art and music… and the unfolding, expanding and flying away of the spirit within this book is just lovely. It really is okay to be ourselves!
I hope your week is a restful one and that you are able to enjoy yourself fully and completely just as you are!
Thank you for reading and sharing encouragements!
