Figures Of Speech 2.0 Exhibit prep

I’ve been busy framing and packing up my artwork for delivery to my upcoming exhibit at the winery Burnt Bridge Cellars via the Caplan Art Designs Gallery. My exhibit is titled Figures Of Speech 2.0 and it opens at the winery June 7th – that’s this coming Friday! – and will continue through the end of July.

Here’s a look at my studio as it is right now with framed paintings, in archival sleeves stacked around waiting to be delivered.

Here’s what inspired all of my artworks and what I wrote as an exhibit statement:

I keep thinking of various phrases that are often taken for granted. What happens when I examine curiously the content of such ready-made language? We learn languages and phrases from other people. These can become our linguistic habits and habits of mind. So I’ve taken the content of ready-made language and looked at it as if it’s unfamiliar. I’ve taken phrases that are common to me and played with them visually, using ink, gouache and acrylic, in order to share with you a surprise of recognition and perhaps a laugh.

And because, in addition to words, both art and books matter to me I also created a 20 page printed book, a fine art album, of my entire exhibit – which you can preview and access by clicking here.
