Ass over teacup

In my last post I was beginning a new 8 x 10 painting at the kitchen table instead of my easel because of my hurt foot. The table looks like this… to the right you see the painting in progress…

…which I finished.

I’ve titled it “Ass Over Teacup”

Yes, my painting was inspired by the common phrase “ass over teacup” and it’s twin “ass over teakettle”. Both phrases refer to falling. I chose the teacup version because it gave me more surface area for the steam to rise in the shape of a donkey losing their footing.

During times I’m elevating my foot I’ve been reading “Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH”

I also began a new painting…

I hope your footing is sure and that you stay in the upright positions.

  2. Love the ‘ass over teacup’. In my Miss Liv Adventures series, Miss Livingstone is knocked ‘bustle over teakettle’ by the villain. 😀 The painting of daisies from the ground looking up is so creative. What a unique perspective! I hope your injury is mending and pain is easing. Have a good week!

  3. I love your illustration of that phrase! I so enjoy the way you translate idiom into a visual medium. Incidentally, both “ass over teacup” and “ass over teakettle” are new phrases to me. In Britain, we say “arse over tit”. If illustrating that variant, you’d have had to draw an ass somehow hovering above a tit bird. Anyway, I am rather charmed by the idea of steam from mugs turning into the forms of animals. It is reminiscent of the idea of reading tea leaves by interpreting their shapes.

I hope your healing is going well and that you are as comfortable as possible.
