Early bird

I wrote in my last post about having been a night owl and that changing due to necessity. This change of hours inspired me as I worked on a new painting at the kitchen table this week in short bursts until I finished it….

… and titled it “Early Bird”. I feel like this bird looks in the early hours, pajamas fluffy hair and all.

“Early Bird” – by Clancy – 8 x 10 – gouache and ink on board

This painting will join the rest of the series for my exhibits via the Caplan Art Designs Gallery later this year.

And of course I began another painting immediately. I’m like that. I can’t think of any solo activity more fun to do than paint.

Except possibly reading printed books. Or drawing in my sketchbook. Or writing. Or memorizing poetry.

Here’s my current favorite poem by Dorothy Parker. It’s one of the poems I’m memorizing and thinking about when I’m getting up too dang early to go to physical therapy or the doctor’s for my hurt-but-healing ankle.

A poem excerpted from a page in “Comic Poems” a book in the Everyman’s Library Pocket Poem book series

I hope you have poems to help your early bird self fly this week. You might as well live too.

  1. Ahh, I love the smell of snark in the morning (or any time, actually). Does your new painting involve the taking of high tea?

    1. Lol!!!! You’ve read my mind!!! Yes!! There’s a local coffee shop that does good coffee and tea along with a mindboggling array of edible “high tea style” tidbits! Snark/play with this topic had follow in subsequent artworks. 😁
I do enjoy taking small things seriously, carefully… the whole tea ceremony thing is interesting to me as a phenomenon but I keep giggling, pointing and “omg look at that towering confection! how on earth would one actually eat that?”… so I just get a coffee and marvel!! And that’s fun! I like feeling wonder and amazement.

  2. I love the way the steam from the coffee rolls the opposite to the Early Bird’s comb – such a fun pose!

    1. Lol!!! Thanks for seeing that!!! When morning comes so very early sometimes I like the coffee strong enough to curl hair…
