Here’s my exhibit statement for Meditations Upon Awakening:
“Marcus Aurelius wrote “In the morning when you arise unwillingly remember that you arise to the work of being human”. For me that means using my skills of drawing images and writing words in order to connect with myself and with my friends. So I make art, books and cards. I draw in my sketchbook most mornings and my sketchbook work often inspires the art, books, cups and cards I make. Many of my works depict the act of reading a printed book because, besides laughing and cooking, humans are the only animals who read and that’s an act worth getting up for.”
The Aurora Gallery also has more than 15 of my artist book titles available. These are limited edition reproductions of books I’ve written, illustrated and designed.

This exhibit opening Friday February 6, 2026 is the debut for my newest artist book titled The Rag Dog.

…. and on my Substack newsletter Friday February 6, I’ll read my story out loud and tell about what inspired it. (Spoiler: I was inspired by the emotional lives of both individuals and communities – the ways we have come together for each other during 2025 and 2026. Our shared memories, knowledge, experiences and skills are what help us be resilient in difficult times.)
Here’s a link to my general Substack newsletterย (the above mentioned Substack post won’t be available until Feb 6.)ย where you can see my sketchbook and my thoughts as I’ve worked towards this exhibit.ย https://sueclancy.substack.com/
